Root Moto G (1st Gen or 2nd Gen) on Android Lollipop using TWRP Recovery !

This Rooting process is applicable for all versions of both generations (Moto G & Moto G 2nd Gen)
respectively.

Carefully follow all the instructions below to root your Moto G :-

(First of all let me remind you I am not responsible if something happens to your device. Proceed with Precaution.)

Requirements: Android phone, a computer compatible with Windows, an USB cable and make sure your smartphone have at least 30% of battery to perform the rooting process.
  1. Follow the instructions On how To Unlock the Bootloader on Moto G.
  2. Once you have successfully unlocked the bootloader on Motorola Moto G, then you need to install custom recovery (i.e TWRP or CWM recovery). For that you have to connect your device to the computer first then follow the steps below.
  3. Download SuperSU (latest) and move it to the root of the Phone SD memory. In case of Moto G 2013 you need to transfer the SuperSu Package from the computer to the phone memory using your USB cable.
  4. Download and install the Minimal ADB and fastboot Tools on your computer.
  5. Download TWRP Recovery for Moto G 2013 or Download TWRP Recovery for Moto G 2014 on your computer.
  6.  Now, move the TWRP recovery file to the Minimal ADB and Fastboot folder (i.e C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot).
  7. Now, Open py_cmd.exe from the Minimal ADB and Fastboot folder.
  8. Write the Following Command: adb devices (and then press enter). This command helps to know the list of attached devices to the computer.
  9. Now, Give another command: adb reboot bootloader. This command helps you to boot into the adb mode.
  10. Now, give another command: fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.8.6.0-falcon-.img (for Moto G 2013) and fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.8.6.0-titan.img (for Moto G 2014)
  11. Now, you will be able to see some processes on your Device screen.
  12. Now, Select Recovery from the ADB Mode (use volume down for scrolling and Volume Up to select).
  13. Once you have booted into the TWRP recovery mode, Tap on the Install and select the SuperSU package that you have moved to the Phone in #Step 3.
  14. Now, reboot your Device from the TWRP recovery. (Press Reboot System option)
  15. Once your Device is restarted you will be able to see the SuperSU icon in the App Menu. This confirms that you have successfully rooted your Motorola Moto G.

Verify Root
: You can also verify that your device is successfully rooted or not by Root Checker Application. Download it from PlayStore.
Notes :-
There is no data loss: Your Smartphone Data like contacts, pictures, videos, music, etc,. will be not affected on using this method. In short, you are secured.
Also: Thanks to Chainfire for providing their SuperSU app for Motorola Moto G. Because without this tool the above tutorial would not be possible.

  4. This is in reference to your your YouTube video how to update moto g xt 1033 with marshmallow.I followed all your steps, from your blog as well as video, while installing gapps, in my phone there was an error 70. Which is due to memory, even after repeated attempts same error, then I had to reboot system without gapps, one of the suggestion I got from the net was to install a smaller version of gapps , which I did from the link of Wikipedia, and then I had to go back to wipe then factory reset and reboot system. And then it worked perfectly, I would like you to add this to your blog for people who face such problems in the future.
    Thanking you,
